Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman (Jn 4:4-42) is a good paradigm of education. Educere in Latin means to draw out. Prompted by Jesus, she draws out knowledge of herself and God and then shares this discovery with her people, who proclaim their experiential knowledge of Christ: “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” During our deliberations on the PAP, the Education Commission members and collaborators confirmed how the emphasis of the Ignatian pedagogy – reflection on experience and action – had moulded them and their pupils. The action plans outlined here are the experiential strategies for evoking the best human values like Competence, Conscience, Compassion and Commitment from our students. They will help us accompany the youth in their search for depth of faith, reconciliation, universal citizenship and a hope-filled future.
